May 4, 2022 - Quick, Delicious, Filling

Our Interview with Dina Irace of Evo Brick Oven Pizza in Philadelphia, PA

What was your relationship with pizza like as a kid? What inspired you to open Evo?

Dina: Pizza was always a Friday night tradition growing up to celebrate the week being over and the weekend festivities begin. I was inspired to open EVO because I love to cook and make delicious meals for everyone to enjoy.

Evo is an entirely family-run pizzeria; what’s it like having your coworkers also be your family?

Dina: I absolutely love spending time with my family and to work with them is like the cheese on-top of the pizza. I’m fortunate enough to help my children learn the importance of the business and continue our family business.

What’s the pizza scene like in Philadelphia? Does Philly have a style of pie that it’s known for?

Dina: Pizza in the city of Philadelphia is a mixed bag really; each part of the city has their fan favorites like a traditional Sicilian tomato pie or a thin-crust hand-tossed pie. We specialize in hand-tossed pizza and it is a very big hit in our area.

You’re in the process of opening up a second Evo Brick Oven Pizza location in Philadelphia…congrats! What are you most excited about with the new location?

Dina: I’m most excited about bringing our food to new faces and building up our business. We’re super excited to unveil the new store and offer some new items that we have been perfecting in our kitchen.

Why do you think that pizza makes people so happy?

Dina: Pizza makes people happy in any situation. Celebrating a birthday? Having a small family/friends game night? Something quick, delicious, filling? Pizza is the go to. Another great thing that makes people excited about pizza is the unlimited combinations of toppings, sauces, etc. It is really the go-to for anyone!

You’ve been a huge supporter of Slice Out Hunger with both our Pizza Across America program for National Pizza Day and our ongoing Pizza Vs Pandemic project; what would you like to see next from Slice Out Hunger?

Dina: I’d love to see Slice out Hunger keep up with their fantastic plan of making sure no one goes hungry!
